Walk up huge hills / mountains to reach your goal quicker
So I decided to run an errand and landed in the outer city so instead of catching the bus for a 12 minute trip, I decided to go for an hour walk in the rain. Yes, I did have an umbrella.
I was walking alongside main roads where it felt weird to have intersections because if they ran a red light I would be a flat cake on the road.
I guess I seemed less trusting in the outer city area mainly because no one was around walking because it was pouring. And I have never walked this part of the city before. Thank goodness for Google maps.
And as I was walking at first I just stared at Google Maps and the street signs and also my battery charge on my mobile. I was scared the hour trip would kill my battery and then I wouldn’t be able to use Google Maps for the walk home.
Of course, if I was prepared I would have printed the street names of where I had to walk in advance but the errand was unexpected and needed to be done urgently.
So here I am, walking the streets of the outer city and really main roads for what felt like awhile. Although I did try to relax and focus on what was around the area. I did find a charity store which I thought would be cool to see what the rich folks in the area gave to a charity store. And decided I would drop back on my way back.
And then I took another long road but it was just one street and then I was nearly at my destination. One street, one large massive hill to walk up. I was also partly needing to go to the bathroom so I decided to walk up slowly up this hill, in the rain.
I tried looking at the houses. Because looking at houses is pretty fun. You can visualise what it would be like to live there. The trees around the area were pretty too. Lots of big, flowering trees, which looked nice in the rain.
And then about who knows how far up the hill I was, was when my calves started to hurt and I realised if I lived here and literally walked up this mountain (it felt like a mountain but I think it was disguised as a hill.) every day, I would lose weight pretty quick and my stamina would be amazing.
And then I remembered it’s a shame my treadmill doesn’t move up as if walking a hill. But to be honest, when I purchased it, when browsing for treadmills. Those that went on a lean were broken on marketplace so I went the safer bet and just got a flat treadmill.
Also where I walk normally is pretty flat. But if you live in the outer city you are surrounded by these extreme hills. If you could just add one hill to walk up once a week, your walking for health journey would accelerate at a higher pace. Seeing you reach your walking for health goals quicker.
Once I made the top of the hill, I was still on the same street and proceeded down the hill. Slowly. It felt better but for some reason my jeans were getting saturated from the rain and puddles on the street. But the time I hit the bottom of the hill and my destination, I was soaked on my bottom half.
And then, I turned around and walked back up the same hill. I am pretty sure I sighed. But also felt good to know where I was going. I walked back up and really needed to go to the bathroom now. I walked down the hill and crossed the street and caught the bus back.
Know your limits when walking. At first I didn’t mind about walking in the rain but when it was coming in from the sides under my umbrella and the puddles which were hard to see, that I stood in, it just made me want to get back sooner. Plus, I had to use the bathroom so the nice adventure, turned into a cold mess.
But the most important part of the journey was to remember to walk hills as often as I could. Big ones. Like I’m pretty sure it was at least 20 minutes to walk this hill. Now that’s one big hill.
