If you want more energy, walk more

It’s interesting isn’t it. Today I sat on the couch and around the early afternoon, I felt absolutely exhausted. Sure, I went out in the morning but I barely walked. Under 1,000 steps.

And yet, here I am, exhausted.

It’s been a few months and I haven’t been able to achieve 10,000 steps a day. Some times I get close and then I have a cheat day, which never works and then I struggle to get back into it for a few more days. And I go up and down in steps.

When I was walking 10,000 steps for about four months straight, I was losing weight and I had more energy. I could feel it.

So it’s frustrating, how do we get more energy when we are tired to begin with?

I feel like when you are starting or re-starting like me. You get moments of energy. So you may be laying on the couch for an hour and you will get up and go to the bathroom and realise you have this very small burst of energy. Don’t sit back down, just yet!

Use that little bit of energy to do something. Walk. The other day I jumped on the treadmill for 5 minutes. That’s all I had energy for but hey that’s five extra minutes of walking than I was going to do. So start small.

I also started back on the treadmill and did twenty five minutes. It was a huge struggle. I checked the time on it like ten times and wanted to jump off every five minutes but I hung in there.

Later that day, I jumped back on the treadmill and did another 20 minutes but this time was easier! I wasn’t looking at the clock every two seconds.

So it does get easier to walk and you have to embrace it when you have some energy, even a trickle more.

It doesn’t matter if you break down an hour walk into three times on the treadmill for twenty minutes at a time. You are still doing the same amount of steps than if you did an hour straight. This is handy, if you can’t find an hour straight to walk.

So what’s the point of this blog? The point is, the more you walk, on a regular basis. The more energy you will receive and the more weight you should lose, making it easier to walk.

So keep going. Don’t give up. Even when you would prefer to lay on the couch. Take the TV with you, and watch your favourite show while walking on the treadmill or if you prefer go to your favourite place to walk and make it a routine to go there each day.

You got this.
