Go for a walk to feel good
Obviously there are many benefits to walking. Read below to see some of the major benefits:
Benefits of walking equals lower blood pressure
Initially when I was heavier I had high blood pressure for over a year. I knew this because I got it checked regularly. When I started walking aiming 10,000 steps a day and lost 14 kilos my blood pressure returned to normal. My doctor was surprised and said just keep walking because I still had more weight to lose.
Walking helps manage stress
Your mind will thank you. The amount of mind stress I have had which I have solved by going for a walk is incredible. What do I mean about mind stress. Mind stress is where you are stressing about something and it just rolls around and around your mind. So going for a walk helps you think of it and then think of ideas to solve it and then you can move on.
Walking increases stamina
You stamina improves. If you are like me, when I don’t walk enough or often I puff walking up a single set of stairs. When you walk daily for 10,000 steps, you can puff less up those stairs and feel good about walking and your stamina improving. Also when you walk and talk you aren’t as breathless as you talk because your body is so used to keeping up with itself.
Walk at your pace to see the benefits
You can go at your own pace. I am not a speed walker or a fast one, unless I’m about to miss my train. But being a slow walker doesn’t mean you won’t reap the benefits stated in this article. Don’t let being a slow walker deter you from walking. Just go for a walk at your pace. Trust me it works if you keep it up.
You can lose mass amounts of weight from walking
If you are looking to lose weight, go for a walk aiming for 10,000 steps a day and don’t expect big losses each week but over time any loss will add up. I lost 14 kilos in a year just from walking and not even changing my diet!
Go exploring
Walking is a fun way to explore new areas and meet people. You wouldn’t believe how far I have travelled just to walk in a new location and explore the area. And then it doesn’t even feel like you are walking as exercise. It becomes an outing!
Walking has a low impact on your body
The other advantage to walking is you are less likely to get injured than if you did other exercise. The low impact of walking and wearing good walking shoes helps limit the impact on your body. So walking is gentle on your body, which is an added benefit if you are over weight.
Walking boosts energy
When you have been sitting down all day, sitting down for long periods makes you tired. So going for a walk at the end of the day and even at the beginning of the day, helps boost your energy levels. And over time you will see your energy levels increase so you will be wanting to walk to use your energy.
Walking improves sleep
Walking helps improve sleep because the more energy and exercise you do, the more you become tired at the end of the day and can sleep a full night sleep. Sleep is so important to your overall health, mentally and physically. Stress makes it hard to sleep. So walking helps improve your daily stress and helps you sleep - win / win.
Now these are just some of the benefits of walking. Please comment below on one benefit that has improved since walking.
