Why I have introduced more vegetables in my diet?
You know in this #walkingforhealth blog I have created, I have said from the very beginning you don’t have to change your diet to lose weight, as long as you walk.
I lost 14 kilos just from walking and not changing my diet.
And as much as I love eating take out and the convenience of it, in the back of my mind I think, well if I am eating healthier, I will have more overall energy and a longer lasting health benefits for my mind and body. It’s a win / win.
So I do still eat take out. But this week, I challenged myself and I bought mainly vegetables: pumpkin, mushrooms, purple onion, snow peas, bok choy, cherry tomatoes and some diced beef and I made a stir fry. I changed it up each day, with different type of noodles and sauce. The first few days I just had veggies and noodles. And it was filling! Which to be honest I was scared of. Would I go to bed in a few hours and feel hungry? Nope! And then I added some meat for the next few days to change it up a bit.
Also, my grocery bill was halved by only buying one item of meat. I thought vegetables would be expensive but it seemed cheaper.
I also like water vegetables and fruits for snacks. Like for snacks I ate grapes, strawberries and cherry tomatoes. Water snacks help with the munching motion and boredom during the day, rather than a high sugary snack and carbs like a muesli bar.
Now I am not a nutritionist so I honestly can’t say, if fruit has more sugar than a muesli bar. But it does taste more refreshing in my mouth and it makes me feel good, so I don’t really see the issue.
People can really become food obsessed and I have in the past and became super thin, basically because I didn’t eat much but dry bread and porridge. Was it healthy? No way. Where were the colours in food that you get from vegetables and fruits? Also, I enjoy eating and food so why limit my day to bland food, no thanks. And that’s the whole point of my #walkingforhealth blog. It’s about walking but still enjoying food. You can lose weight and maintain it because you are still enjoying eating yummy food! Life is worth living yes?!
I can still eat take out. But some times it’s also cool to eat healthy. Even if I do cook for myself, why not cook a family meal and have it over a few nights? Perfect. It’s yummier when it’s home made and it feels good because you made it.
Will you lose more weight quicker if you eat and change your diet? Yes. Well most likely, I’m not a health food specialist. But you have to remember once you lose weight you need to maintain it. And if you can’t live off a certain diet for the rest of your life, then try something you can live off.
Remember, walking is the name of this game!
