Find times to walk - plan ahead
So I’m still getting used to making a walking routine and that’s because my every day can be different every day.
So it’s about trying to plan the day ahead, the day before.
What are your plans for tomorrow? How will you fit walking in?
Especially if your day tomorrow is working from home or just planning being at home. On those days, I really want to just sit all day and be a lazy potato because the comfort of my home is great. And I could really do a lot of sitting downs things like craft and hobbies to reading or crocheting while watching tv. So many opportunities to sit.
So I challenge you to every night think about when you will walk tomorrow.
Also, don’t forget if your work gives you morning tea breaks, use them to walk as well! A twenty minute walk can be around 2000 steps. That all adds up to your day of walking.
You might find that waking up an extra thirty minutes early each day gives you some steps to walk to add to your day. However, it’s coming into winter in Australia soon and I have to say staying rugged up in bed for thirty minutes before getting up is really satisfying.
And that’s ok!
You don’t have to set a routine that doesn’t work for you. Because how you set your day in the morning is very important. If you wake up and set your mood into a positive energy, it’s going to help you throughout your day. In turn, if you wake up annoyed that you have to walk when you could be getting extra sleep, then it’s really not worth it.
So how else can you fit into walking? Lunch time. It’s actually great for your digestive system, to walk after you eat. So if you have a thirty minute lunch break, eat and then walk for ten to fifteen minutes. You might feel sluggish at first but when you walk back into the office you will feel more refreshed, especially if you walked outside during that time.
If you have a treadmill at home, try walking in twenty minute intervals. If you find walking for an hour too long in one hit. Twenty minutes is good to feel good and get your steps up. Also most YouTube videos are ten to twenty minutes so you could fit two in and learn about a new topic or interest. You can always check out my YouTube channel @littlemissmel23. It’s a hobbies channel.
It’s important to keep your walking interesting. So by adding pod casts, learning about different topics or even listening to an audiobook is a fun way to walk. I love doing this when on a treadmill because when walking near traffic I find I can’t hear the podcasts as easily.
I also find going to different places to walk helps me feel even more reconnected with myself and my senses as they take in all the new surroundings.
So don’t just plan when to walk tomorrow but where. Enjoy your planning!
