If you want to achieve your goal, you need to set a routine
So most of us know about what goals are but do you know how to make them work and achieve them?
As I have blogged about before, I lost 14 kilos just by walking. The goal walk about 9,000 steps a day and not miss a day and you will lose weight without changing what you eat. Impressive huh?!
That’s why I created this blog to share with you my journey and help you achieve your walking for health goals.
So whatever your goal is, you have chosen to walk daily to try and achieve your goal.
When setting up a goal it’s important to create a start date and if you are competitive with yourself you can set an end date or if you are more laid back and want this to be a lifestyle choice, then you don’t need to set an end date. But setting a start date is very important. And it’s really important to set it within the week of setting your goal. Because that’s when you are most motivated to try to achieve your goal.
So you have your walking for health goals. You have set your start date. Now you need to find time of when to walk each day. Are you going to do 10,000 steps in one hit with one big walk sometime set in the day?
Or are you going to break it up and walk 3,000 steps three times a day? How are you going to fit your walking schedule into your life? Are you going to wake up an hour early to walk? Are you going to walk in your lunch breaks at work? Or are you going to wait till the end of the day and walk on your treadmill at night?
There are so many options but it can still be difficult to go and find walking times in your day to day life. So setting a routine is how you will achieve your goal over time. Do you see it’s all about your actions and not necessarily with an end date?
Sure you may want to lose 10 kilos in a year of walking every day of 10,000 steps. But then what? And that’s when you create your next goal. It could be the health aspect that to avoid putting on back your original weight, you will continue to walk 10,000 steps a day. Or you will just keep walking because walking is great for your physical health but also your mental health. There are many reasons to walk. It’s just so important when you achieve your goal, you keep walking.
But the most important take from all this is you have created a routine, no matter how tiring it is to wake up an hour early to walk or how one day you wake up late and miss walking. That you just keep going.
You will face challenges and you will face times when you can’t walk that day, that is ok. Just get back up the next day and get back into your routine. And once you have a set routine, you will crave it so it will be even harder to miss.
Good luck on your walking for health journey.
